A garage door is the largest moving object in most homes, and the springs are what make a hundred-plus pounds of door feel light. That balance is stored energy. What you can safely check. Whether the opener has power and the outlet is live. Whether the photo-eye sensors at the bottom of the track are aligned and clean - a misaligned sensor is the single most common reason a door refuses to close and reverses. What you should not touch. Springs, cables, the bottom brackets, and the drums. All of them are under tension even when the door is down.

- Is this the spring, the cable, the opener, or the door itself?
- Are you replacing both springs or just the broken one, and why?
- What is the cycle rating on the springs you install?
- Is the safety reverse being tested before you leave?
- What is warrantied - parts, labor, or both?
Noise is a maintenance signal. A door that has gone from quiet to loud usually needs rollers, hinges, and lubrication rather than anything dramatic - and catching that stage is far cheaper than replacing a bent panel later. Grinding from the opener itself is a different conversation.
